Dr. Hubert Bird (b. 1939)
was born in Joplin, Missouri, and
received his early education in the public schools
of Baxter Springs, Kansas. His college education
includes music degrees from Missouri
Southern State College, Pittsburg State
University (Kansas),
and a DMA in composition from the
University of Colorado at Boulder.
From 1967-1997 Dr. Bird was on the faculty of the
Music Department at Keene State College of
the University System of New Hampshire.
His professional life as a composer, conductor, and
tenor soloist has brought Dr. Bird recognition
both nationally and internationally.
His compositions are performed throughout the
United States, Europe, and South America each year,
and his works have been professionally
released on both in compact disc
and cassette tape formats.
As a conductor, Dr. Bird has worked not only with
college ensembles, but also as a guest conductor,
clinician and adjudicator for
choruses involving younger singers. He
has served as an adjudicator and clinician with
choruses in Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine, and New
York, as well as Kansas, Oklahoma,
Arkansas, and Missouri.
Dr. Bird is a member of the American Composers
Forum; the American Music Center; the Music Teachers
National Association; Music Educators
National Conference; the American Choral Directors
Association; the American Guild of Organists;
the American Society of Composers, Authors, and
Publishers; and a number of other professional
organizations.
