BAVARIAN FLAVORS

German Music

Anyone who has experienced Oktoberfest in Munich knows the meaning of "Gemutlichkeit!," the phrase which emobdies the joy and vitality of the traditional German celebration. The Bavarian Flavors German Band captures that spirit of Gemutlichkeit and they've been delighting audiences in colleges, cityparks, and festivals around the Southeast for over ten years. This lively and talented quartet features accordionist Susan Clearman, whose ability to perform international music in its authentic styles has been called "dazzling" by Atlanta area entertainment media. Along with accordion, the quartet features clarinet/saxophone, trumpet and, of course, tuba. Sporting authentic German lederhosen and dirndl outfits, this band's repertoire is a treasure trove of traditional folksongs and dance tunes that truly reflect the Germans' zest for living and love of nature.

Bavarian Flavors German Band, has been a favorite at the Atlanta Symphony's Beethoven Summerfests, where it delighted audiences in the Atrium hall. It has also been featured at the Biltmore International Exposition in Asheville, NC, and at the Centennial Gateway Pavilion during the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Its vast and diverse repertoire includes:

German folk songs and popular music like Die Lorelei, Schutzen Liesl, Hoffbrau Haus and Wandersmann (The Happy Wanderer); toe-tapping marches, snappy schottisches, merry rheinlanders and boisterous polkas, including Heidewitzka, Herr Kapitan, Holzauktion, and Rosamunde (Beer Barrel) and Leichtensteiner Polkas; and plattler, landler, mazurkas and gliding waltzes, such as Wallberger, Miesbacher, Zu Augsburg Im Goldenen Stern, and Kufsteiner Lieder.
